Toothaches and urgent visits
For a dental problem that is not life-threatening, call the office as soon as it opens. If it is serious, follow the notice below.
A broken or knocked-out tooth
Keep the tooth or the piece, hold it by the crown and not the root, and call us right away.
A badly aching tooth
Rinse with warm water and call us. Do not put aspirin against the gum.
A swollen gum or cheek
Call us the same day. If the swelling spreads or you have a fever, follow the notice below.
A filling or crown that came out
Keep it and call us. We tell you how to protect the tooth until your visit.
- Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.
What an urgent visit is like
The hours
Call when the office opens: Alisal from 6:30 a.m. and Market Street from 11 a.m. We try to see people the same day when we can. We cannot promise it; if there is no opening today, we tell you and say what to do in the meantime.
Outside office hours
We do not have an after-hours line and we do not answer the phone at night. If it is serious, go to an emergency room or call 911.
Comfort
We numb the area when needed. Tell us what hurts and we stop when you ask.
